BIO

Thanks for visiting me here at Fine Print Design Studio (previously Mimi Calligraphy). I’m Mimi, the Calligrapher and Creative Designer of Fine Print Design Studio. I am based out of the Bay Area, California. 

By day, I am a non-profit immigration attorney. By night, I moonlight as the artist behind Fine Print Design Studio. It all started when I finished studying for the California State Bar. I was mentally drained and demoralized, so I took a chance on pointed pen calligraphy. I wanted to revive my mind and to restore my soul and spirit. Picking up the pointed pen was, hands down, one of the best decisions I have made to date. 

Calligraphy changed my life. Calligraphy became my escape, my meditation, my therapy. (Well, that was after working through the beginner’s frustration, and troubleshooting through issues that all beginners face with using improper tools and not learning the discipline of calligraphy). My life has never been the same since I picked up the pointed pen. 

I was self taught for the first year and a half, and I plateaued. I began taking courses  to improve and grow. I took classes with very experienced calligraphers, including Master Penmen and Penwomen, of which, the White House Calligrapher. From my courses, I have expanded my repertoire of scripts and mediums to include brush and chalk calligraphy. Calligraphy pushed me outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow. 

I am a true believer that every blank slate is beautiful and that there is beauty in every handmade good; they are imperfectly perfect. I love making my letters dance, and I would love to help make your vision come to life.
